Finding CandidatesManual Filters

Manual Filters

Build a precise candidate search by hand across role, keywords, location, company, experience, and education.

If you prefer to build a search yourself, use Manual Filters on the Search page. The filter panel lets you narrow your search across several categories, and the matching candidate count updates live as you go.

The filter categories

Role & Title — Search by current and past job title, job function, and seniority level (C-Level, Senior, Manager, Mid-Level, Specialist, Intern, and more). You can also exclude specific job titles.

Keywords — Free-text search across profile summaries, headlines, and “about” sections. Use specific terms for better results.

Location — Target candidates by region, and optionally by company headquarters location. You can also exclude regions.

Company — Filter by industry, company type, and company size, and target current or past companies by name, LinkedIn URL, or domain. You can exclude industries and companies too. Targeting specific companies is one of the most reliable ways to find relevant experience — see Tips & Tricks.

Experience — Filter by total years of experience, years at current company, and years in current position.

Education — Filter by school or university, with the option to exclude institutions.

Activity & language — Filter by profile language and engagement signals such as recently changed jobs, posts on LinkedIn, and recent press mentions — useful for finding candidates who are more open to a move.

Reading your results

As you apply filters, matching candidate cards appear, each showing the candidate's name and photo, current role and employer, location, and education, with a link to view their full profile. If a candidate is already in one of your sequences, a tag will tell you.

The live match count at the bottom of the filter panel tells you how broad or narrow your search is. Select candidates individually or all at once, then add them to a sequence.

Aim for the sweet spot — precise enough to be relevant, but not so narrow you run out of candidates. Start broad and add filters one at a time, watching the count change.

  • A pool in the hundreds to low thousands is a good starting point.
  • If your pool is very large (tens of thousands), add more specific filters.
  • If your pool is very small, relax one or two criteria.

The Role & Title, Keywords, and Company filters support Boolean operators (AND, OR, and parentheses) for more powerful queries. See Boolean Search.
